At 7:30 PM on September 12th, I'll be boarding a flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport to begin my 4 month long journey in England (and hopefully a boatload of other European places). I'll arrive at Heathrow Airport at 7:30 AM Greenwich Mean Time, and definitely hope to make it through customs and getting my student visa without getting deported. Can England deport you if you give off the aura of preferring coffee to tea?
Right now, I'm just over a month away from my trip and it doesn't seem like it could possibly be happening. That may be the reason why all of my packing lists I've made this summer start and end with "power cord adapter" after I get too panicked to continue (though it may be an interesting challenge trying to make my way around Europe armed ONLY with a three pronged power cord). I feel like there's still so much more to do before I go, and I don't mean just sucking it up and facing the fact that at some point I will have to buy and pack practical things rather than shoving in that last pair of flats into my suitcase that I 100% won't be wearing.
I still have a lot of friends to see, a lot of weekend trips to take, a lot of shifts to work and a lot of peanut butter to eat. Did you know England doesn't have peanut butter as a primary condiment? I'm still offended.
I'm so excited for what's ahead, but I can't seem to get past right now, and I think that's okay. I think if it was the other way around I would have been fired from my job by now.
In lieu of an 'about me!' post (which actually lives in one of those other little tabby things up there) I'll give you my reason for starting this blog: not only is it going to be great to be able to read back over travels and experiences, but I also didn't feel like sending out an email chain to each and every one of my very curious (and great!) family members.
And maybe also so I can brag a little.
